Job summary

Kinder Morgan is seeking a Terminal Operator in Chicago to perform liquid product handling, tank-to-tank transfers, rail switching, and related duties according to SOPs and regulatory requirements. You will gauge readings, operate heating units, assist environmental and maintenance tasks, and participate in safety programs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Trade school, formal training/significant work experience, or Associate's degree highly desirable.
  • Experience with pipe wrenches, box wrenches and other similar tools.
  • Excellent mathematical skills (Addition, Subtraction, Fractions, Multiplication, and Percentages) are required.
  • Flexible schedule to work in a 24 hour per day operation and/or weekend/holiday work is required.
  • Must be able to work from written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Superior work ethic and dependability.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.
  • Successful completion of a background check, physical and drug screen upon offer.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all functions of Terminal Operations as directed by work orders and/or supervision consistent with standard operating procedures, state and local regulations in a safe, timely and cost effective
  • The position performs work associated with liquid product handling of a variety of chemicals and petrochemicals, by way of barges, tank-to-tank transfers, tank cars, and tank trucks, and/or other work required within the terminal.
  • Performs both physical gauges and side gauge readings as required.
  • Performs heating functions of required products in terminal storage facilities and mode units as required.
  • Rail switching.
  • Conducts spill clean up operations as required.
  • Performs housekeeping chores on operation activities, grounds and buildings.
  • Assists in both environmental services and maintenance as required
  • Participates in company training programs and related testing.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
  • Overtime is voluntary, though can be mandatory if there are no volunteers.
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards and procedures requirements.

Job description

What You Will Do

  • Certain conditions of employment will be governed by the agreement between Kinder Morgan Liquid Terminals and the United Steel Workers union.
What You Need

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED is required

  • Experience/familiarity with pipe wrenches, box wrenches and other similar tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with handling Hazardous liquid chemicals
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, Industrial Hygiene and other industry regulations is a plus
  • Terminal Operator, Gauger and/or Maintenance Mechanic experience

Work Conditions:

  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions as outside work is mandatory.
  • Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to, walking up and down stairs/ladders including heights over 40 feet, navigating uneven surfaces, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear standard PPE (Hard Hat, Goggles, Rain Gear, Steel Toe Boots) and qualify to wear a Full Face Respirator.
Pay Range

USD $38.26 - USD $40.76 /Hr.
