Job summary

James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Violin beginning Fall 2027. The successful candidate will join a vibrant School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, dedicated to developing artistry, pedagogy, and community engagement.

Responsibilities include undergraduate, masters, and doctoral violin instruction, pedagogy courses, advising, scholarly activity, and recruiting; plus performances,

Qualifications

Doctorate in violin performance; ABD candidates with anticipated completion date before Aug 10, 2027 may be considered.
Record of exceptional teaching of applied violin.
Demonstrated potential for recruiting, mentoring, and sustaining a thriving violin studio.
Significant artistic achievement with potential for national and/or international recognition as an artist-scholar.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral violin lessons; courses in violin performance and pedagogy.
Advise undergraduate and graduate research and writing; support scholarly and creative activities; recruit.
Engage with the broader community through performances, masterclasses, workshops, outreach, partnerships, and other public-facing activities.
