Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Sustainable Systems in Blacksburg. We seek a systems-oriented scholar at the intersection of industrial ecology, sustainable biomaterials, energy systems, circular economy, and decarbonization.

The successful candidate will strengthen the Sustainable Systems Science major by integrating material and energy flows across supply chains, infrastructure, manufacturing, packaging, and bio-based systems, and will

Qualifications

PhD by start date in industrial ecology, sustainability science, energy systems, environmental engineering/science, sustainable biomaterials, systems engineering, or closely related field.
Evidence of excellence or strong potential in university teaching and student mentoring.
Evidence of strong potential for externally funded research and high-quality peer-reviewed scholarship.

Responsibilities

Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; contribute to core SBIO courses.
Develop Sustainable Systems Science curriculum and capstone experiences.
Establish and lead an externally funded research program addressing sustainability and energy-transition challenges.
Engage with industry partners and external stakeholders to advance impact.
