The role strengthens a distinctive program in protective and industrial packaging and contributes to the Packaging Systems and Design program.

The position emphasizes teaching, research, and service, with a 2:2 teaching load by year two, and a path to advanced courses and leadership within CPULD and the Packaging Innovation Hub at VT.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in packaging-related field by appointment start date.
• Evidence of potential for excellence in university teaching and graduate student mentoring.
• Evidence of strong potential to establish an externally funded research program and publish high-quality scholarship.

Responsibilities

• Lead a 50% teaching, 40% research, 10% service appointment with a 2:2 teaching load by the end of year two.
• Develop and teach SBIO 4024 Packaging Design for Global Distribution and SBIO 4224 Industrial Packaging; SBIO 5664 Advanced Packaging Dynamics on a rotating basis.
• Build a nationally recognized externally funded research program and collaborate across Virginia Tech with various units and initiatives.
• Engage with CPULD and the Packaging Innovation Hub; develop industry partnerships and lead center operations over time.
• Collaborate with department, Virginia Tech, and external stakeholders on packaging engineering challenges.
