Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers in Fairfax, VA seeks a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in public/community archaeology. The position begins August 25, 2027 and focuses on historic archaeology, colonialism archaeology, or archaeology of the recent past.

The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities, teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform departmental service within the SOAN program of George Mason University.

Qualifications

• PhD in Anthropology or Archaeology must be in hand at time of application.
• Experience teaching in an Anthropology department or related field.
• Active engagement in public or community archaeology.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement.
• Ability to teach upper-division undergraduate/graduate courses in archaeological theory.

Responsibilities

• Maintains an active research program with publications in peer-reviewed sources.
• Teaches undergraduate and graduate archaeology courses and contributes to curricular development.
• Participates in service to the department.
