Job summary

George Mason University’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in public or community-based archaeology (geographic area open) starting August 2027.

We seek a scholar with interest in historic archaeology, archaeology of colonialism, or the archaeology of the recent past who will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and contribute to scholarly and service activities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement in archaeology.
• Experience teaching in an Anthropology department or related field.
• Active engagement in public or community-based archaeology.
• Ability to develop and teach advanced archaeology theory courses.

Responsibilities

• Maintains an active research program with publications in peer-reviewed venues.
• Teaches undergraduate and graduate archaeology courses and contributes to curricular development.
• Participates in departmental service and program initiatives.
