Job summary

South Dakota State University in Brookings invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. This nine-month, benefit-eligible position starts August 2027 and is supervised by the Director of the School. The role includes teaching, mentoring, and maintaining an active research program.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field by start date and the ability to establish an independent research program.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field by start date.
• Specialization in applied behavior analysis, biological, or clinical psychology.
• Ability or potential to teach psychology at the college/university level.
• Ability or potential to build an independent research program.
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach in-person and online undergraduate courses in Psychology (typical courseload per academic year is three courses in the fall term and three courses in the spring term; summer teaching is optional and is based on availability).
• Mentor undergraduate students in research.
• Maintain an active research program.
• Provide service to the School, College, and University as well as service to the profession.
