Job summary

The University of North Dakota invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Geography & GISc with a focus on Transportation/Geospatial Technologies. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position based in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with a distribution of roughly 30% teaching, 60% research, and 10% service.

Candidates will contribute to cross-disciplinary research clusters, engage in geovisualization of big data, data analytics, and web mapping, and develop externally funded programs.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Transportation Planning, City and Regional Planning, or an allied discipline by August 15, 2025.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in transportation and geospatial technologies, including on-campus/in-person/online courses.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students, direct graduate theses and independent study projects.
  • Establish a productive research program with extramural funding and collaborate with peers.
  • Develop and teach courses such as Big Data Applications, Transportation Planning, Urban Geography and Planning.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure high-quality learning environments.
