Job summary

San Jose State University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track/tenured Open Rank faculty position beginning August 2027.

We seek candidates in statistics or data science with a strong research record, effective teaching, and a commitment to inclusive excellence. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise students.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Statistics, Data Science or a closely related field completed by July 2027.
• Demonstrated awareness of educational goals of a diverse student population.
• Ongoing research with a future agenda.
• Experience or potential for effective teaching at undergrad and grad levels.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate statistics, data science, or mathematics courses.
• Supervise graduate students in MS Statistics and MS Data Science programs.
• Supervise student teams in CAMCOS industry projects.
• Participate in shared governance and service assignments.
• Maintain a focused research agenda with peer-reviewed publications.
• Organize all classes within the Canvas LMS.
• Demonstrate inclusive teaching materials and advisement for diverse students.
