Job summary

The University of the District of Columbia seeks an Assistant Professor, Early Childhood Education, for a full-time tenure-track 9-month appointment in Washington, DC. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of early care and education courses and engage in advising and program development.

Duties include organizing field experiences, maintaining records, recruiting & retention, and contributing to accreditation efforts; fluency in Spanish is a plus, and PITC certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. preferred or Master’s in early childhood education.
• At least two years of full-time teaching in a post-secondary institution.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programming for infants/toddlers preferred.
• PITC certification a plus.
• Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teaches courses in early childhood education.
• Counsels and advises student majors and keeps records for each advisee.
• Assists with recruitment and retention of students.
• Organizes field experience activities for students and assigns tasks as needed.
• Responds to student inquiries in a timely manner.
• Keeps current with developments in early childhood education.
• Coordinates program activities with other instructors.
• Participates in governance and college/department meetings.
• Develops course outlines, measures learning outcomes, and assesses student performance.
• Maintains a minimum of five office hours per week.
