Job summary
The Department of Sustainable Biomaterials at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Distribution Packaging. The successful candidate will strengthen the PSD program and build a nationally recognized program in protective and distribution packaging, including packaging dynamics, testing, and resilient supply chains.
The position includes a 50/40/10 teaching/research/service split, with a 2:2 teaching load by year two, and opportunities to engage
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in packaging science/engineering or related field.
- Evidence of potential for excellence in university teaching and mentoring.
- Potential to establish externally funded research program and publish high-quality scholarship.
Responsibilities
- Build a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in protective and distribution packaging.
- Teach and mentor students in the PSD program, with a defined teaching load.
- Engage with CPULD and Packaging HUB to promote testing, design, and industry partnerships.
- Collaborate across Virginia Tech with Food Science, engineering, and transportation domains.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service activities.
