Job summary

The Ohio State University’s School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in musicology and/or ethnomusicology. We welcome candidates whose work advances fine-grained analysis of music within communities of practice and who will teach undergraduate and graduate curricula across musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory.

Required: Ph.D. by appointment or ABD with expected graduation before Aug 15, 2027.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or a comparable and relevant humanistic discipline.
• Earned doctorate by the time of appointment is required.
• ABD candidates with an expected graduation date prior to August 15, 2027, will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate core courses including European art music traditions, African American musical traditions, musical citizenship, and global music histories.
• Graduate courses include disciplinary surveys, methodological training, and specialized seminars.
• Develop and teach curricula within musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory across undergraduate and graduate levels.
