Job summary

The Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley is hiring two tenure-track Assistant Professors specializing in pre-1700 English literature. We welcome applications from scholars working on medieval and early-modern vernacular literatures of England from a wide range of critical and theoretical perspectives.

The position requires teaching our historical literature surveys from medieval literature through the mid-17th century.

Qualifications

• PhD (or enrolled in PhD program) in English or related field at time of application.
• Specialization in pre-1700 English literature.
• Focus on medieval and early-modern vernacular literatures of England.
• Ability to teach surveys from medieval literature through mid-17th century.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research leading to books and articles.
• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate seminars and undergraduate lecture courses.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students; supervise dissertation research.
• Participate in administrative activities within the English department and across the University.
