Job description

Overview

The Auburn University Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2027.

About the ISE Department, Auburn University, and Auburn, AL

The ISE Department at Auburn University has a strong research program and a long tradition of excellence in both graduate and undergraduate education. The department comprises 25 faculty members (17 tenure track), approximately 200 graduate students (80 in the doctoral program), and 478 undergraduate students. Our student population has grown by over 230% in the last 10 years, and 10 new faculty members have joined the department during that period through retirement replacements and growth.

Our research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the Department of Defense, the Federal Aviation Administration, among many others. In addition to fundamental science, our work impacts manufacturing, national security, health, transportation, technology, and workforce development. Auburn ISE combines the resources of an R1 land-grant university with a collegial college town, strong schools, and an expanding research park. Our department also fosters hands-on learning opportunities, providing access to teaching laboratories, including the Tiger Motors Lab, which simulates a real manufacturing environment, and the College of Engineering’s Design and Innovation Center, an 11,000-square-foot makerspace. More information about our department and the opportunity is available here.

Auburn University holds the R1 Carnegie research institution designation and is one of the nation's premier land, sea, and space-grant institutions. Auburn is committed to maintaining teaching excellence. Its Fall 2026 enrollment includes nearly 30,000 undergraduates and over 6,000 graduate and professional students. Auburn’s 12 academic colleges are served by roughly 1,500 faculty members delivering more than 200 educational programs. The Princeton Review named Auburn students the happiest in the nation in its 2025 edition.

Auburn University is located in Auburn, AL, approximately 1.5 hours southwest of Atlanta, GA, 50 minutes from Montgomery, AL, and 2 hours from Birmingham, AL. Auburn residents enjoy a thriving community, recognized as one of the “Top 10 Best Small Cities in America” by the Milken Institute, with a moderate climate and easy access to major cities, beaches, and mountains. The Auburn School System is a recognized leader in education.
