Job summary

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education beginning Fall 2027. We seek a scholar-practitioner with expertise in inclusive methods for K–12 learners with disabilities, focused on curriculum access, assessment-informed instruction, and specially designed instruction.

The appointment includes a 9-month academic year with a reduced teaching load during the first four years.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate or ABD in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a special education emphasis or closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in accessible special education methods for K–12 learners with disabilities.
• Minimum of three years of successful professional experience in K–12 cross-categorical special education.
• Eligibility for, or equivalent preparation aligned with, cross-categorical licensure, including supervision of teacher candidates.
• Evidence of an active program of scholarship or potential to develop a sustained research agenda.
• Commitment to accessible practices, culturally responsive teaching, collaboration, and equity in education.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with K–12 schools to support clinical experiences and community engagement.
• Prepare teacher candidates to use inclusive, evidence-based instructional practices and IEP-aligned planning.
• Prepare future educators to address equity, disability, culture, language, and access to opportunity.
• Maintain an active program of scholarship advancing the field of special education.
• Teach courses with emphasis on K–12 methods, literacy, math, and specially designed instruction.
• Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, and licensure documentation.
• Supervise clinical experiences, providing coaching while collaborating with schools and families.
• Engage in service activities at department, college, university, and community levels.
• Develop coursework to prepare teachers to design and assess instruction for learners with disabilities.
• Advise and mentor teacher candidates throughout their preparation.
