Descripción del empleo

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) together with the Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) located in Cambridge MA, invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of machine learning (ML)/artificial intelligence (AI) and their application in physiological systems and healthcare data beginning July 1, 2027, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter.

We seek candidates whose research involves advancing ML, AI, or innovative computational methods to address healthcare problems. Areas of interest include algorithmic/methodological advances specifically for healthcare data; using electronic medical records for improved diagnosis, treatment planning, or outcomes; analysis of healthcare data across scales (molecules to organism; individual to populations) with links to environmental or economic confounders; clinically actionable ML/AI; digital pathology and other relevant areas of ML/AI/computing to advance human health.

Appointment will be at the assistant professor level. In special cases, an untenured associate or senior faculty appointment may be possible, commensurate with experience. A doctorate in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, or another relevant field is required by the start of employment.

The successful candidate will have an appointment in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), which will serve as the tenure home, and a joint appointment with the Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES). Faculty duties include teaching and advising graduate and undergraduate students in EECS and the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences & Technology (IMES's educational program) conducting original research, developing course materials at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and engaging in service to EECS and IMES. The normal teaching load is 2 subjects per year. Candidates are expected to teach in both EECS and IMES. Together EECS and IMES offer supportive mentorship to junior faculty, an exceptional environment for scientific inquiry, and a strong commitment to an inclusive, welcoming culture.

The pay range for a 9-month academic appointment at the entry-level Assistant Professor rank (excluding summer salary): $143,000 - $150,000. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. This pay range represents base pay only and does not include any other benefits or compensation. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check, including possible verification of any finding of misconduct (or pending investigation) from prior employers.

We request that applications include:

  • (a) curriculum vitae
  • (b) research statement
  • (c) a teaching and mentoring plan
  • (d) copies of three representative publications
  • (e) three letters of recommendations

To receive full consideration, completed applications must be submitted by December 1, 2026.
