TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN PLANT OR MICROBIAL GLYCOSCIENCE

COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATE RESEARCH CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA

The University of Georgia announces an opening for a tenure track faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC; www.ccrc.uga.edu) in the area of plant and/or microbial glycoscience. At the Assistant level, applications will be considered from talented and accomplished investigators who currently maintain or exhibit potential for developing vigorous research programs. Applicants at Associate or Full rank should have a record of high productivity, consistent extramural funding, and evidence of international recognition. We seek outstanding scientists whose research complements or expands our existing strengths in the CCRC and fosters a team science atmosphere that can benefit from our cutting-edge NMR, Mass Spectrometry, Computational, and Structural Biology infrastructure.

The CCRC is home to the DOE Center for Plant and Microbial Complex Carbohydrates and the DOE-funded Center for Bioenergy Innovation (CBI), the NSF-funded BioF-GREAT BioFoundry, the Network for Advanced NMR (NAN), and the NIH-funded T32 Glycoscience Training Program. The CCRC is also the home of GlyGen, GLYCAM, and the leadership for the 5th edition of Essentials of Glycobiology. The above are national and international resources for the study of complex carbohydrates from plants, microbes, and animals and the successful candidate will be expected to utilize and expand such resources through collaborative research efforts.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Plant Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, an outstanding publication record, and a well-developed research plan. Successful candidates will be expected to build or maintain a vibrant, extramurally funded research program that leverages the highly collaborative research environment at the CCRC and UGA. Successful candidates will have access to a robust graduate student training program, highly motivated undergraduate trainees, and the opportunity to participate in education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. An attractive start-up package with highly competitive conditions of employment will be offered. The University of Georgia (www.uga.edu) is an R1 research land-grant and sea-grant institution located 65 miles northeast of Atlanta in Athens, Georgia.
