The University of Chicago's Department of Neurological Surgery invites applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty positions. Salary Range: Assistant Professor: $140,500 - $200,992 per year; Associate Professor: $205,810 - $260,400 per year; Professor: $245,580 - $302,483 per year
The University of Chicago's Department of Neurological Surgery seeks tenure-track or tenured faculty members at any rank to join the Department. Our department is engaged in cutting-edge neurosurgical research and development, focusing on pioneering new treatments for a range of neurological conditions. This includes ongoing investigations into treatments for brain tumors, epilepsy, CNS congenital anomalies, and neurovascular disease. Our epilepsy program is collaborating with brain imaging experts to advance surgical treatments for epilepsy. Furthermore, our neurovascular research is focused on the molecular mechanisms behind cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM).
We are actively expanding our research focused faculty in the area of neuroscience, and we welcome applicants with general research interests in the areas of brain-computer interfaces, neuroimmunology, brain tumor immunology/ immunotherapy, and brain/ tumor interactions. Other duties will include teaching at the graduate and/or undergraduate level, supervision of students and trainees, and clinical care, where appropriate. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications. While the primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Neurological Surgery, appointees may have an opportunity for secondary appointments in other departments of the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) dependent upon interests and qualifications. There will be multiple opportunities for appointees to collaborate with faculty in some of the following programs: the University of ChicagoNeuroscience Institute, the Department of Organismal Biology & Anatomy, the Department of Neurology, the Department of Medicine’s Section of Hematology/Oncology, and The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The University is a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation. The Biological Sciences Division, other academic units of the University, and the University of Chicago Medical Center are all contained within one compact campus in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Appointees will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities, outstanding colleagues, and graduate students affiliated with numerous degree-granting programs within and outside the Biological Sciences. Faculty in the BSD collaborate widely across their respective Departments, with other Divisions, Schools, and Institutes at the University of Chicago, and with researchers at the Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree(s), in Bioengineering, Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Cell Biology, Anatomy. or a related field, 2) have completed postdoctoral training.
