Job summary

SUNY Cortland invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary Teacher Education in the Department of Childhood/Early Childhood Education. The appointment begins August 2027 and includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood and childhood programs in both in-person and online environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a scholarly agenda, and strong communication skills to work with a diverse student body,

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in teacher education or related field, or ABD with completion date within the first year of appointment.
• Knowledge of early childhood and/or elementary curriculum and best practices for instruction and pedagogy.
• Evidence of a scholarly agenda including research-based presentations and/or publications.
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the early childhood and childhood programs.
• Advise and work with students to support their success.
• Observe practicum and student teachers.
• Work in professional development schools and build partnerships with schools and/or childcare centers.
• Demonstrate knowledge of issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Maintain a productive research agenda.
• Participate in department, School of Education, and University affairs, including committee work and curriculum development.
• Participate in data collection and analysis for program review and accreditation.
