Job summary

Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA is seeking an Assistant Professor in the School of Education to teach social science methods, educational foundations, and teacher education courses using a justice-oriented Ethnic Studies framework.

You will supervise and mentor credential and graduate students, contribute to graduate programs, and engage in research and scholarship while building partnerships with local schools to advance equity for diverse communities in Northern California.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in education or closely related field by time of appointment.
• Experience teaching, mentoring, advising, or working with first-generation or underserved students.
• Minimum of three years of successful TK-12 teaching experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to advocacy, leadership, scholarship, teaching, and program development that advances educational equity.

Responsibilities

• Teach social science methods, educational foundations, and teacher education courses.
• Prepare teacher candidates to develop equity-centered, culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies.
• Teach graduate courses in the MA in Education program and contribute to interdisciplinary offerings.
• Maintain an active program of research, scholarship, and/or creative activity.
• Supervise and support teacher candidates in clinical practice across pathways and placements.
• Advise and mentor credential and graduate students, including committee roles.
• Participate in service, governance, and partnerships within the School of Education and the broader community.
• Develop collaborations with local schools and districts to support teacher preparation and educator development.
