Job summary

Winona State University seeks an Assistant Professor of Data Science or Statistics to teach a range of data science and statistics courses in person, supervise capstone projects, and advise students while contributing to curriculum development.

The position emphasizes scholarly activity, service to the university, and collaboration with industry partners to promote the disciplines to high school students. A Ph.D in Data Science, Statistics, or Biostatistics is required by August 2027.

Qualifications

• Ph.D in Data Science, Statistics, or Biostatistics with an anticipated completion date before August 2027.
• Experience teaching an undergraduate data science or statistics course as the primary instructor or as a teaching assistant.
• Preferred Qualification Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
• Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of data science or statistics at the undergraduate level as the primary instructor.
• Evidence of a commitment to continually improve the data science or statistics curriculum.
• Ability to make connections with industry partners, recruit students, develop workshops, and promote our disciplines to high school students.
• Experience in the applications of data science or statistics.
• Desire to teach Python programming in our upper-division data science courses.
• Experience with one or more of the following areas: machine learning, consulting, healthcare analytics, or research in the teaching and learning of data science or statistics.
• Evidence of strong communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Teach a variety of data science and statistics courses in person and across varying locations/times.
• Instruct courses using modern and innovative curriculum; supervise capstone experiences.
• Engage in scholarly or creative activity to advance knowledge in data science or statistics.
• Advise students and contribute to university and community service.
• Support university mission and collaborate with industry partners to promote the disciplines.
