Job summary

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance beginning fall semester 2027. The candidate will teach studio practice/technique in jazz, tap, and musical theatre and choreograph productions in collaboration with music and theatre faculty.

Responsibilities include teaching theory courses, mentoring students, developing new courses, and participating in shared governance within the Dance Department and College of Fine Arts.

Qualifications

• terminal degree in dance (MFA, PhD or EdD) is required or ABD with all requirements completed by Aug 1, 2027.
• Experience as a dance and/or choreographer in tap and musical theatre, including Fosse.
• Evidence of successful dance teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teach studio practice/technique courses in jazz, tap, and musical theatre.
• Choreograph musical theatre productions in collaboration with music and theatre faculty.
• Teach theory courses such as Dance Philosophy/Criticism, Dance History, Dance Theory, and Dance Science.
