University of Hawai'i at Manoa, CALL - Department of History, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the history of Southeast Asia to begin August 2027. The department seeks scholars with open research agendas and a strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

• PhD in History or a related discipline; ABD considered if all requirements completed by Aug 2027.
• Demonstrated expertise in Southeast Asian studies or interdisciplinary Asian studies.
• Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Research proficiency in at least one Southeast Asian language.
• Ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff and administrators.

Responsibilities

• Teach lower-division Southeast Asian history survey courses.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in area(s) of specialization and in general areas per department needs.
• Supervise MA and PhD students.
• Participate in graduate committees.
• Conduct research and publish in areas of specialization.
• Perform department, college and university service work.
• Other duties as assigned by the department chair.
