The Department of Studies in Justice, Culture & Social Change at the University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Criminology to begin Fall 2027. Teaching load is five undergraduate courses (~16 credits) per academic year, with advising, research, and service responsibilities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Criminology and Sociology majors, maintain an active research agenda, and participate in service to the department

Qualifications

• Ph.D. by June 30, 2027 in criminology, criminal justice, justice studies, or sociology
• Experience teaching Criminology core courses (Intro to Criminology, Criminological Theory, Research Methods/Statistics)
• Evidence of an active research agenda

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses (approx. 5 classes/~16 credits per academic year)
• Advise undergraduate majors in the department programs
• Engage in research and maintain an active research agenda
• Provide service to the department, college, campus, discipline, and local community

Job description

The Department of Studies in Justice, Culture & Social Change invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Criminology at the rank of assistant professor to begin Fall 2027. Job duties and responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses (current teaching load is 5 classes [~16 credits] per academic year), advising undergraduate students who are majoring in our department's programs, participating in research/scholarly activities and maintaining an active research agenda, and providing service to the department, college, campus, discipline, and/or to the local community. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to both the Criminology major and Sociology major.

Required qualifications

• a Ph.D. (by June 30, 2027, from an accredited institution) in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, or Sociology
• teaching experience and ability to teach in the core curricula of Criminology (Introduction to Criminology and/or Criminological Theory and/or Research Methods and/or Statistics)
• evidence of an active research agenda
