Job summary

Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics in Applied Mathematics. The ideal candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics and statistics courses and engage in scholarly research.

The position includes start-up funds, a reduced teaching load in the first two years, and a strong retirement/pension program. The Department seeks expertise in nonlinear optimization, machine learning mathematics, or stochastic modeling, with a commitment

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field (degree must be conferred by the start date)
• University or college teaching experience (e.g., instructor of record, teaching assistant, or similar role) in mathematics
• Evidence of ongoing or potential scholarly research in applied mathematics or a closely related area
• Demonstrated potential to teach upper-division undergraduate and graduate-level applied mathematics courses
• Research expertise in applied mathematics, with particular interest in nonlinear optimization, the mathematics of machine learning, or stochastic modeling
• Evidence of excellence in teaching
• Potential for directing Master’s thesis students or mentoring undergraduate research
• Potential for contributing to department governance and service
• Evidence of commitment to mentoring first generation college students in the mathematical community

Responsibilities

• Teach mathematics and/or statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level
• Engage in scholarly research or grant activity
• Serve on department, college, and university committees
• Mentor undergraduate research and graduate student Master’s thesis projects
