Job summary

USTA Hawaii Pacific - Oahu is seeking a mobile tennis instructor to lead the Play and Learn program and deliver lessons at multiple park sites across our community. You will teach all ages and abilities with a focus on safety and customer service.

The role requires a High School diploma (college preferred), proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to travel. Certification such as USTA Coaching, PTR, or RSPA is preferred at Development Coach level or higher.

Qualifications

  • High School degree required, college preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to play tennis at an NTRP level of 4.5 or higher.
  • Preferred USTA Coaching, RSPA or PTR certified at Development Coach level or higher.
  • Transportation is required, and you must be willing to travel to different locations.
  • Requires contacts and good rapport with the community.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the U.S. The Hawaii Pacific Section is one of 17 geographic Sections of the USTA. Incorporated in 1973, the Hawaii Pacific Section embraces over 7,800 individual members and 109 organizational members in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas. In addition, the Hawaii Pacific Section is further comprised of four Community Tennis Organizations: Kauai , Maui , East Hawaii & West Hawaii . The Hawaii Pacific Section is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to carrying out the goals of the national association within its region, particularly with respect to promoting tennis opportunities for juniors and adults of all abilities and all cultural backgrounds.

The Role

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide tennis instruction for the Play and Learn program.
  • Mobile teaching professional at more than one park site.
  • Conduct tennis lessons based on the schedule provided by the Community Tennis Director
  • Have the ability to teach all ages and abilities
  • Provide private, semi-private, and group tennis lessons.
  • Facilitate instruction in a positive and safe environment
  • Be properly groomed and dressed.
  • Conduct lessons in a professional and customer service-oriented manner
  • Daily communication with staff and frequent communication with the Executive Director and Director of Community Tennis.

Other Duties:

  • Handle communications with students to include rainouts, cancellations, and other questions they may have.
  • Have the ability to maintain, retain and grow the student base.
  • Attend training for professional development.
  • Do not teach on public tennis courts without a permit.
Who You Are
  • High School degree required, and college preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to play tennis at an NTRP level of 4.5 or higher.
  • Ability to teach group tennis lessons outdoors.
  • Preferred USTA Coaching, RSPA or PTR certified tennis instructor at a Development Coach level or higher

The base salary for this position consists of a $1,000/month base salary, plus lesson income, offering great earning potential! This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
