Job summary

The Hillsboro Club invites an experienced Tennis Professional to oversee all tennis activities, lessons, and events in a seasonal capacity. You will supervise staff, manage the tennis shop, and coordinate court maintenance while delivering exceptional member service.

Required background includes USPTA or PTR certification, college-level tennis experience, and several years in hospitality or private clubs. Knowledge of junior programs and retail skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Multiple years of hospitality or private club experience.
• Certification with USPTA or PTR.
• Four years of experience in sporting goods retail sales.
• Experience running junior development programs.
• Knowledge of court maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct instructional programs and deliver tennis lessons.
• Organize and officiate tournaments, exhibitions, and inter-club events.
• Supervise tennis staff and manage the tennis shop.
• Coordinate court maintenance with Grounds and Maintenance.
• Develop annual tennis activity calendar and promotions.
• Coordinate food/beverage support for tennis events.
• Ensure compliance with club policies and employment laws.
• Be visibly present on the courts during peak play.

Job description

The Hillsboro Club, an exclusive oceanfront private residence club in South Florida, is seeking an experienced Tennis Professional to support the daily operations of its tennis department. The ideal candidate will organize and oversee all tennis activities, events, exhibitions, tournaments and lessons while delivering outstanding customer service and upholding the Club’s safety and service standards. We are looking for a candidate with several years of hospitality or private club experience, and the passion for contributing to the success of our luxury property.The Club operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting and ending times, and hours worked in a week.The Tennis Professional position is a seasonal role offering competitive compensation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a beautiful oceanfront setting while contributing to a dynamic and highly professional team.General RequirementsPlans and directs instructional programs.Provides lessons and clinics for members and guests relating to the techniques and strategies of tennis.Organizes, administers, and officiates at tournaments, exhibitions, and inter- and intra-club social events.Administers and enforces club tennis policies and procedures regarding play on club courts.Strings rackets and performs other light equipment repairs.Purchases and maintains adequate beverage inventory.Coordinates maintenance, repair, and cleaning of courts with Grounds and Maintenance departments.Writes and edits tennis-related news for the club’s newsletter.Selects, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates the Assistant Tennis Professional and other tennis staff.Manages the tennis shop.Establishes and implements an accurate inventory control system and reports results accordingly.Transfers all charges from the tennis shop to the accounting department.Develops the budget for the tennis profit center; takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.Ensures that all club members and guests receive courteous, prompt and professional attention to all their tennis needs.Markets tennis facilities to members and guests.Develops a detailed annual calendar of tennis activities and applicable promotion campaigns during the tennis season.Maintains a close working relationship with other club professionals.Maintains accurate records of all lessons and clinics given; provides monthly written reports.Inspects and maintains all physical areas constantly.Participates on all committees related to the tennis operation.Represents the club in area professional tennis activities and at state or national tennis events with approval from the club.Assists Food and Beverage Director, Executive Chef, Banquet and Catering Manager to coordinate food and beverage service support for tennis events.Ensures that all employees consistently comply with club’s employee manual and with all applicable federal and state employment laws.Is visibly present on the courts during peak periods of play.Attends all staff and management meetings.Completes other appropriate assignments made by the Tennis Director.Education and Experience:Undergraduate major in Physical Education or Sports Management desirable.Collegiate team experience is desirable, preferably with a 4.5 or above rating.Two-to-three-year competitive playing experience and/or tennis supervisory experience.Experience running junior development programs.Knowledge of court maintenance.At least four years of experience in retail sales of sporting goods.Certification with either U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).USPTA required P1 rating.Player ability equal to NCAA Division 1 levelPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentAble to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.Frequent repetitive motions.Continuous standing and walking.Our BenefitsCompetitive SalaryMedical, Dental, and Vision InsuranceCompany Paid Life InsuranceSupplemental Insurance for Short Term Disability, AD&D, and More401k Retirement Plan Plus Company MatchPaid VacationPaid HolidaysEmployee Meals ProvidedJury Duty LeaveBereavement PayDirect DepositWho we are:Hillsboro Club VideoFounded in 1925, The Hillsboro Club is a private residence club for members and their guests in South Florida.
