Job summary

The Tennis Professional at YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta will deliver high quality tennis instruction to students of all ages and skill levels. You will evaluate performance, maintain equipment, and promote good sportsmanship while upholding safety and wellness standards.

Responsibilities include creating training programs, conducting individual and group lessons, coordinating ALTA/USTA activities, and supporting member engagement. Passions for tennis and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field.
• Proven experience as Tennis Professional or Instructor.
• CPR certification within 30 days of employment and maintained.
• USPTA or PTR certification advantageous.
• Strong ability to motivate students and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Provide tennis lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels.

• Develop and implement training programs for different age groups.
• Maintain and inspect tennis equipment and facilities.

Nature and Scope

Under the direction of the Tennis Director, the Tennis Professional will provide tennis lessons to students of varying ages and skill sets. The Tennis Professional’s responsibilities include evaluating students’ performance, ensuring that all tennis equipment is in good working order, and educating students on tennis game strategies and good sportsmanship. You should also maintain a professional appearance at all times. The Tennis Professional should be knowledgeable of different coaching methods and able to perform first aid as needed. Ultimately, an outstanding Tennis Professional should be able to motivate students as well as demonstrate exceptional communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management or in a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience working as a Tennis Professional or Instructor.
• Sound knowledge of various coaching techniques.
• CPR within 30 days of employment and must maintain the certification throughout employment.
• Certification through the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) is advantageous.
• The ability to motivate students.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• A passion for tennis.

Responsibilities

• This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols Including COVID, and Member Services Guidelines and Non-Negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.
• Implants the YMCA safety protocols both related to COVID and branch operations.
• Implement wellness checks and provide a leadership role in ensuring member/staff adherence to the safety protocols, with a commitment to positive member and staff safety.
• Assisting students in developing and improving various tennis skills.
• Assessing students’ tennis skills to determine areas in need of improvement.
• Coordinating and conducting individual and group tennis lessons.
• Developing suitable training programs for students based on their age, objectives and individual skill sets.
• Developing innovative ways to assist beginner or younger students in learning and remembering the rules of the game.
• Identifying the learning styles that work best for each student and adapting all coaching methods accordingly.
• Providing a secure and productive learning environment for students.
• Scheduling meetings with students’ parents or guardians to discuss their progress.
• Attending students’ tennis matches, competitions and tournaments as required.
• Create and manage curriculum for ALTA/USTA practices.
• Evaluate and place new members on ALTA/USTA teams to grow member involvement in tennis.
• Maintain tennis court facilities and equipment in accordance with Risk Management’s policies as directed.
• Maintain and assist with court maintenance as directed.
• Record and report schedules and rosters for adult tennis programming and assist with ensuring payments are collected.
