Job description

Tennessee Secondary Math Substitute Teacher, 2024-2025 School Year

Working from your secure and distraction-free home office, certified Substitute Teachers will virtually support the learning program for students in Connections Academy schools across the country. Using the telephone, Internet, and curriculum tools, the Substitute Teacher will consult regularly with students, Learning Coaches, and school personnel to ensure successful completion of instructional programs. The Tennessee Math Substitute Teacher will act as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences, ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, with an average of 8-12 weeks. This is a part-time position with no benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Be available online Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone to communicate with parents, students, and teachers, develop learning plans, monitor assignments, and provide feedback.
  • Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences as instructed.
  • Support instruction through synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).
  • Assist students and parents with assignments and projects, and keep student records up to date.
  • Collaborate with counselors and special educators to meet individual student needs and provide updates on student activities.
  • Check email regularly for updates and upcoming assignments when not on assignment.
  • Meet monthly with a Substitute Services supervisor via video conference.
  • Complete professional development and maintain active certifications.
Requirements
  • Use a personal device and email for 2-step authentication.
  • Highly qualified and certified to teach Math in Tennessee; multiple state certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to obtain additional state certifications as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Distraction-free home workspace.
  • Availability during school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of IEP/504 plans in a virtual setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Reliable high-speed internet; Microsoft OS and Office experience preferred.
  • Customer-focused and team-oriented.
  • Complete orientation and training within 30 days of hire and annually.
  • Occasional evening work may be required.
