Job summary

Kier is seeking a Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our civil, structural and geotechnical team across the UK. We offer agile working with up to 1-2 days per week from home and a 40-hour week.

You will contribute to the design, checking and delivery of complex construction projects, supporting tenders and preconstruction activities, and helping ensure safety, buildability and sustainability in our solutions.

Qualifications

• Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?
• Working towards Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) or of equivalent experience?
• Enjoy applying first principles thinking to real-world construction challenges, combining a keen eye for detail with sound engineering judgement, a focus on safety, buildability, sustainability and a flair for innovation and creative problem-solving?
• Have experience of temporary works design and/or management, or other practical construction experience?
• Have strong organisational and communication skills, and enjoy working as part of collaborative teams?
• Want to join a top-25 engineering consultancy, recognised as a one of Glassdoor's 50 best places to work?

Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.

We're looking for civil, structural and/orgeotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

Locations

Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours

40 hours per week – flexibility on hours available if desired

What will you be responsible for?

Contributing to the delivery of a broad range of complex construction engineering services, including some or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.
