Characteristics of the Class

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Essential Functions
  • Plan and prepare lessons in accordance with instructional objectives, establish positive learning standards, evaluate student progress, and maintain accurate records.
  • Implement instructional methods, applying contemporary learning theories and teaching methodologies, and develop engaging classroom environments.
  • Exhibit and apply knowledge of curriculum content and participate in programs to improve student attendance and behavior.
  • Establish classroom rules and maintain discipline, ensuring fairness and respect in student relationships.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, attendance, and conduct.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and may coordinate extracurricular activities and field trips.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework for Illinois State Board of Education teaching certification.
  • Possession of a valid Illinois teaching license: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), endorsed for this position.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Knowledge of subject matter, teaching principles, and classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet student needs and work effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and professional judgment.
Physical Requirements

Light physical activity including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds frequently, with the ability to stoop, reach, handle objects, and communicate effectively.
