Job summary

Description Of Basic Functions And Responsibilities

The Shasta College Physical Plant department is seeking to build a pool of qualified applicants for substitute/temporary driver work. We will respond to applications based on our current needs.

To transport students on field trips or to other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of student passengers while riding in a District bus or van. This job class is responsible for the safe operation of an assigned District bus or van while meeting established trip schedules and to assist the Motor Pool Mechanic/Foreperson or perform maintenance and repairs on District vehicles and equipment. Frequent overtime and weekend hours with overnight stays required. Interstate and intrastate travel required. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

washes district vehicles as neededAssists the Motor Pool Mechanic/Foreperson in performing major tune‑ups, repairs and overhauls of District vehicles and heavy equipment, repairs on suspension systems; performs preventative maintenance on District vehicles and equipment at regularly scheduled intervals; assists with troubleshooting for minor or major mechanical malfunctionsAssists the Motor Pool Mechanic/Foreperson with fleet recordkeeping.Assists in identifying needed parts to complete repairs; estimates or assists in estimating costs, materials for repair to electrical, air, cooling or mechanical systemsPerforms periodic State and Federally‑mandated inspections on commercial vehicles; prepares completed required records and documents necessary to comply with State and Federal laws and regulations and District procedures applicable to vehicle maintenance and repair;
