Job description

Primary Purpose

The Standardized Patient reports directly to the Simulation Lab Manager and or Medical Director. The Standardized Patient portrays characteristics of a real patient, simulating signs and symptoms thereby affording the student an opportunity to learn and to be evaluated on learned skills in a simulated clinical environment. Standardized Patients will undergo physical examinations by students as part of the medical students learning experience.

Essential Job Functions

• Be highly dependable and punctual
• Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments
• Follow written and verbal instruction
• Provide constructive feedback to medical students and fellow SPs
• Work in a professional manner when interacting with learners, faculty, supervisors and peers
• Be comfortable having repeated physical examinations
• Be willing to wear a hospital gown with only undergarments underneath, while on camera and/or observed live through an observation monitor
• Simulate all aspects of scenarios, including history of current problem, behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner
• Accurately and consistently complete checklists
• Accept ongoing feedback from facilitators and incorporate into case simulation
• Other duties as assigned
