The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examinations and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dental assistants must work effectively with co-workers including Specialty dental assistants, patients, and the front office by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner. A successful dental assistant will execute active listening to objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others, keep commitments, keep others informed of work progress, and address problems constructively to identify practical business solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants: If assigned within specialty areas including Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric, they will primarily support clinicians within that specialty and may be required to have additional training.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Actively participate in PPE by striving to keep patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their needs and concerns.
  3. Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to other team members as appropriate.
  4. Communicate with front and back office teams to ensure smooth and efficient scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; clean each operatory per infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist to enable efficient, quality dental care.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures as directed by the clinician.
  9. Prepare tray setups for procedures and replenish supplies to ensure efficiency.
  10. Keep the patient's mouth dry and clear during procedures.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care as directed.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician notes in the digital chart.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history.
  14. Ensure equipment maintenance according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work closely with Lead Dental Assistant to maintain supplies.
  16. Learn and operate relevant technology, providing explanations to others.
  17. Participate in team meetings and adhere to company culture and standards.
  18. Implement the Perfect Patient Experience to gain Patients for Life.
  19. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor following policies.
  20. Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; completion of mandated training courses.
  • Certificates, licenses, or registrations as required by state.
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance; reliable transportation for travel between offices.
Preferred
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school or equivalent experience.
