About the Role

Montana Supply is seeking a dependable, organized, and experienced Shipping & Receiving Associate to join our Operations team in Big Sky.

The Shipping & Receiving Associate plays an important role in keeping our inventory and daily operations running smoothly. This position takes ownership of the day-to-day flow of incoming and outgoing merchandise, including receiving deliveries, processing inventory, maintaining backstock, replenishing the sales floor, fulfilling eCommerce orders, and keeping our stockroom organized and efficient.

This is a hands-on role that requires strong attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with our Shipping & Receiving, Merchandising, and Sales teams.

What You'll Do

Receiving & Inventory — 50%

• Bring incoming deliveries to the receiving area within one hour of arrival.
• Sort and inspect deliveries, verifying merchandise against purchase orders and invoices.
• Identify deliveries that are past their cancellation date and communicate with the appropriate buyer or manager before receiving.
• Receive and process deliveries accurately, efficiently, and according to established standards.
• Ensure packages are processed within five business days of their initial delivery date.
• Communicate receiving discrepancies, inventory issues, and delayed deliveries to the Shipping & Receiving Manager.
• Compare actual shipments against purchase orders and invoices to identify discrepancies.
• Prepare merchandise for the sales floor according to labeling and merchandising standards, including steaming apparel, labeling products, and sorting floor stock from backstock.
• Restock the sales floor as needed and according to daily priorities.
• Maintain accurate and organized backstock by returning loose or misplaced merchandise to its appropriate location as part of end-of-day procedures.

Restocking & Backstock Organization — 20%

• Maintain a clean, organized, clearly labeled, and easily navigable backstock area.
• Organize inventory according to established backstock procedures and evolving operational standards.
• Receive and properly organize excess sales floor merchandise returned by the Sales or Visual teams.
• Regularly assess the backstock area for efficiency, accessibility, and effective use of space.
• Identify and communicate opportunities to improve inventory flow, organization, labeling, and storage.

Stockroom Organization & Supplies — 20%

• Maintain the overall organization and cleanliness of receiving and stockroom areas.
• Monitor shipping and stockroom supplies and communicate replenishment needs.
• Assist with scanning, filing, and organizing inventory documentation.
• Support improvements to backstock flow, labeling, storage, and workspace efficiency.
• Help maintain an organized and productive receiving environment throughout the workday.

Outgoing Shipments — 10%

• Monitor eCommerce sales throughout the day and pull, package, and prepare customer orders for timely shipment.
• Package authorized vendor returns according to established procedures.
• Deliver outgoing packages to the appropriate drop-off location.
• Pick up mail and packages from the post office three times per week.
• Help ensure outgoing shipments are accurate, properly packaged, and completed on schedule.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in shipping, receiving, inventory, stockroom, warehouse, retail operations, or a related field.
• Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and follow-through.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including shifts that may exceed eight hours.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Experience with Lightspeed Retail POS or another inventory management system is preferred.

Working Relationships

This position works closely with the Shipping & Receiving Manager , Merchandising Team , Sales Manager and Sales Team , and other members of the Operations team.

The Associate will receive daily priorities and operational guidance from the Shipping & Receiving Manager while taking independent ownership of assigned receiving, inventory, backstock, and shipping responsibilities.

The Shipping & Receiving Associate is an important part of the team behind Montana Supply's customer experience. When inventory is received accurately, backstock is organized, the sales floor stays replenished, and orders ship on time, the entire business runs better.
