Temporary Seasonal Facilities Operations Assistant 1 - Kingston FMS

Base Pay Range

Description

This position is not in the Classified Service of New York State but is covered under New York State Military Law. Civil Service employees will lose their seniority if selected, exempting them from promotional exams.

Under supervision, Maintenance Helpers perform semi-skilled and unskilled tasks involving trades such as carpentry, mechanical, electrical, or painting. Tasks involve using trade tools and equipment under specific instructions. Incumbents may operate motor vehicles and power equipment. Work involves physical effort in cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Maintaining shop machinery and equipment
• Performing grounds maintenance such as mowing, snow removal, trash collection
• Performing facilities maintenance like cleaning, painting, furniture arrangement
• Operating machinery and maintaining automotive equipment
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• Knowledge of safety standards
• Ability to use trade tools and equipment
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Follow directions and complete assignments
• Work independently or in a team
• Good communication skills

Qualifications - Minimum

• Experience in maintenance, grounds work, or labor-intensive environments
• Ability to work independently and with a crew
• Valid driver’s license for NY State
• At least 18 years old, able to read/write in English, capable of lifting 50 pounds, work at heights, and outdoors in various weather conditions
