Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • For Austin Energy: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to electric utility line or power plant construction and maintenance, OR seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in construction or maintenance activities, including three (3) years in planning, coordination, and scheduling of utility construction projects.
  • For Austin Water: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus 3 years of experience in coordination and scheduling of utility infrastructure projects. Education may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

Licenses and Certifications Required: None.

Travel

If selected and you meet the Driver Safety Standards, you may drive to multiple locations as part of your duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for transportation.

Additional Information

Work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility and on-call rotation outside normal hours.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a lead capacity, including organizing, training, and coordinating multi-discipline project teams.
  • Knowledge and experience with Austin Water’s collection system, including possession of a Class III Collection System Operator License (or higher) and extensive use of AW’s IPS database.
  • Effective communication skills with project engineers, inspectors, contractors, and O&M staff.
  • Experience in field construction, interpreting drawings and contract documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience responding to sanitary sewer overflows (SSO’s), analyzing causes, and estimating volumes.
  • Ability to travel and work outside regular hours when necessary.
Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities

Includes coordinating and scheduling construction projects, reviewing contracts, tracking project status, planning work, preparing schedules, communicating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance, and meeting with project teams.

  • Knowledge of utility construction projects, workforce requirements, and construction techniques.
  • Skill in reviewing project reports, maintaining records, and scheduling workforce.
