Temporary Research and Development Associate

Join to apply for the Temporary Research and Development Associate role at North Carolina State University.

The North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS) in Asheville, NC is seeking a Temporary Research and Development Associate to work remotely with Institute and NOAA NCEI scientists on current projects. Responsibilities include data inventory development, scientific study coordination, data search and acquisition, statistical analysis, data formatting and calibration, mathematical model formulation, pipeline development, and machine learning.

The associate will use their education and background to:

  • Complete scientific programming, development, or research tasks under the guidance of Institute scientists;
  • Utilize programming and software engineering skills with environmental information;
  • Research and solve complex issues independently;
  • Learn and apply new skills as needed;
  • Communicate challenges, approaches, and resolutions effectively;
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Position Details:

  • Type: Temporary, 11 months
  • Location: Asheville, NC
  • Work Schedule: 40 hrs/wk

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum GPA of 3.2.
  • Experience with scientific programming and languages.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with software engineering, machine learning, NLP, scientific applications, environmental data analysis, cloud computing, or high-performance computing.
  • Scholarly publications are a plus.

Compensation: $30-40/hr DOQ
