Job summary

Northern Manhattan Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is seeking an experienced Therapeutic Recreation Assistant for a temporary, part-time evening role from October through January in Northern Manhattan. You will lead recreational activities for older adults and support residents in leisure time, promoting healthy lifestyle choices.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Nursing Home experience required.
• Therapeutic Recreation experience 1-2 years preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials and request supplies for recreation programs.
• Clean up supplies and equipment after activities.
• Work with volunteers in assigned areas.
• Facilitate access and participation for clients with special needs.
• Assist in large group recreation activities.
• Attend workshops, in-service education, and department meetings.

Main Responsibilities

• Leading and completing recreational programs and activities while encouraging and engaging with an older population
• Support residents in their leisure time and promote healthy lifestyle choices
• Perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, exercise and dancing.
• Transporting supplies, lifting, pushing and re-arranging tables and chairs.
• Pushing residents in wheelchairs and assisting with transfers.
• Maintain accurate records and reports of resident participation and progress
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care
• Prepares materials and request supplies for recreation programs, incorporating needs and interest of residents
• Clean up supplies and equipment after each activity.
• Work with and/or supervise volunteers assigned to his/her work area.
• Facilitates access and participation in activities of clients with special needs.
• Assists in large group recreation activities.
• Attends workshops, seminars, in-service education programs and department meetings.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Nursing Home Experience (REQUIRED)
• Therapeutic Recreation Experience 1-2 years (preferred)
