Job summary

Northern Manhattan Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is seeking an experienced Therapeutic Recreation Assistant to enhance the lives of older adults through engaging activities. This temporary, part-time evening position requires a nursing home background, strong communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while supporting residents’ leisure and wellness goals.

Bilingual abilities are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Nursing Home Experience (REQUIRED).
• Therapeutic Recreation Experience 1-2 years (preferred).
• Bilingual (preferred).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and complete recreational programs for older adults.
• Support residents in leisure time and promote healthy lifestyle.
• Perform physical activities including exercise and dancing.
• Transport supplies, lift and rearrange furniture as needed.
• Push residents in wheelchairs and assist transfers.
• Maintain accurate records of participation and progress.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide care.
• Prepare materials and request supplies for programs.
• Clean up after activities.
• Work with and supervise volunteers assigned to the area.
• Facilitate access and participation for clients with special needs.
• Assist in large group recreation activities.
• Attend workshops and department meetings.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Northern Manhattan Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is seeking an experienced Therapeutic Recreation Assistant who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of older adults.

Main Responsibilities

• Leading and completing recreational programs and activities while encouraging and engaging with an older population
• Support residents in their leisure time and promote healthy lifestyle choices
• Perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, exercise and dancing.
• Transporting supplies, lifting, pushing and re-arranging tables and chairs.
• Pushing residents in wheelchairs and assisting with transfers.
• Maintain accurate records and reports of resident participation and progress
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care
• Prepares materials and request supplies for recreation programs, incorporating needs and interest of residents
• Clean up supplies and equipment after each activity.
• Work with and/or supervise volunteers assigned to his/her work area.
• Facilitates access and participation in activities of clients with special needs.
• Assists in large group recreation activities.
• Attends workshops, seminars, in-service education programs and department meetings.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
