Job summary

The Temporary Program Aid will support the MSC and Drop-In Center, monitor residents, provide resources, and help ensure safety. This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary role with a daytime schedule and a conclusion around January

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient English communication, both spoken and written.
  • Experience with homeless populations and crisis situations.
  • Accurate data entry and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and follow procedures.
  • Familiarity with CHANGES software.
  • Commitment to Vincentian values and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide resource and referral information for clients.
  • Respectful and courteous treatment of all clients at all times.
  • Monitor and control activities in the Shelter and Drop In, ensuring safety.
  • Carry protective gloves and use them as appropriate.
  • Follow and maintain rules and procedures described in the Shelter’s operations manual.
  • Implement and adhere to Standards of Care per City/County legislation.
  • Use CHANGES software to record client data.
  • Make area checks as assigned.
  • Distribute and collect blankets and towels.
  • Monitor meal lines.
  • Ensure cleanliness of bed and work areas and restrooms.
  • Attend monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco operates the Multi-Service Center - Northern California’s largest homeless shelter, the Division Circle Navigation Center for chronically homeless individuals and couples and the Riley Center - Domestic Violence shelter and services for survivors. SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Temporary Program Aid is responsible for assisting in the general operation of the MSC and Drop-In Center. This position is responsible for monitoring the residents, providing resources and ensuring the safety of the shelter. This is a full-time, non-exempt, temporary position.

SCHEDULE: Day Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm. The schedule is either Friday - Tuesday or Wednesday - Sunday. This is a temporary position ending approximately January 1, 2027.
SALARY/BENEFITS:

The Temporary Program Aid is an hourly position starting at $24.48 per hour.

Sick Time accrued in accordance with the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance (PSLO). Employees earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide resource and referral information for clients
  • Responsible for respectful and courteous treatment of all clients at all times.
  • Monitor and control activities in the Shelter and Drop In, ensuring the safety of residents and staff.
  • Carry protective gloves at all times and use them as appropriate.
  • Follow and maintain rules and regulations described in the Shelter’s operations manual.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Good communication English skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience and ability to work with men and women who are homeless, indigent, alcoholic, mentally ill, and/or unemployed.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in crisis situations.
  • Ability to learn new skills and follow procedures.
  • Proficient in data entry, learning new software and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to maintain collaborative and cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated use of Vincentian values such as respect, dignity, integrity, collaboration, justice, stewardship, compassion, client advocacy and resourcefulness.
  • Demonstrated excellence in relating to clients and performing duties.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with guests, volunteers and staff.
  • Commitment to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco.

Covid vaccination and negative result on TB test required.

Employment offer contingent upon successful completion of background check.

This position requires current CPR and First Aid certification given by MSC.
