Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Educational Foundations is accepting applications for Temporary, Part-Time instructors to teach courses in the teacher preparation and Master’s programs.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

Teaching and professional responsibilities:

Instructor is responsible for teaching 3 credit courses in the teacher preparation and Masters’ program. This includes courses in educational psychology and/or educational philosophy, at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

This position may require in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus and potential off-campus sites. It also may require remote asynchronous or synchronous instruction. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

  • In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

The Educational Foundations ( EDFN ) Department is comprised of 11 full time faculty members and 1 support staff. EDFN is the education home to secondary BSE majors. We believe strongly that teachers must both know the subjects they teach and how to teach them to students. Because of this belief, we value our partnership with liberal arts departments in providing education courses, field experience, and co-advisors for our undergraduate secondary education students. This partnership also includes content specific preparation in Social Studies, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, World Languages, Math and Technology Education. EDFN also houses two M.Ed. programs in Leadership for Teaching and Learning ( LDTL ) and Assessment, Curriculum, and Teaching ( ACTE ). In 2015, an Ed.D. program in Educational Leadership was developed in partnership with Shippensburg University. Additionally, this partnership has implemented an online Educational Leadership Graduate Cetificate and Superintendent Letter of Eligibility for post-master’s professionals seeking to build their leadership skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., Ed.D. or equivalent in Educational Psychology and/or Educational Philosophy.
  • Successful experience as a preK-12 classroom teacher.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching.
  • Evidence of ability to teach diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in urban education.
Essential Functions

  • Teach courses face-to-face and online if necessary at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
