Temporary Overnight Grocery Clerk - East Falmouth, MA

- Overnight Grocery clerks are usually scheduled between 11PM and 7AM
Job Description
- The Overnight Grocery Clerk is responsible for stocking and replenishing shelves, including Health & Beauty Care, Dairy, and Frozen Foods, and other areas.
- This involves using wheeled carts and pallet jacks to transport products from the backroom and cooler/freezer areas to the sales floor.
- The role requires following customer satisfaction behaviors, such as being friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and passionate.
- Overnight Grocery clerks also unload trailer deliveries.
- Maintaining a clean and visually appealing Grocery area is essential.
- There may be some customer contact; therefore, good customer service skills are necessary.
Organizational Relationships
- This position reports to: Grocery Manager, Assistant Grocery Manager
- Full-time clerks may supervise, train, and develop part-time clerks when assigned.
Essential Job Functions
- Work courteously in a fast-paced environment, alone or with others overnight.
- Assist in increasing sales by connecting with customers, qualifying needs, presenting solutions, closing sales, and creating loyal customers.
- Read and complete assignment sheets recording stock levels and other duties.
- Load and unload products weighing up to 60 lbs., pulling pallets into backroom or onto the sales floor.
- Lift and load cases weighing 5-60 lbs. onto carts and push or pull to stocking areas.
- Open boxes with a box cutter and replenish shelves with continuous stocking, involving repetitive motions and reaching.
- Work quickly and carefully, identify products visually, and read shelf tags and display signs.
- Break down and transport boxes, read display info, and work in cool, cold, or frozen environments.
- Identify and remove outdated or poor-quality products.
- Interact courteously with customers, greeting and thanking them.
- Handle difficult situations, such as dissatisfied customers.
Additional Job Functions
- Place broken-down cardboard into the baler and make bales involving heavy wires.
- Order and adjust product using handheld devices.
- Write and affix stock information, lift and load up to 70 lbs., and clean areas as assigned.
- Clean display cases, fill supplies, take verbal orders, and perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge And Background Required
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Good customer service skills.
- On-the-job training provided.
Knowledge And Background Desired
- Prior stocking experience.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately.
- High school graduate or enrolled in school.
Working Conditions
- Scheduled between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., usually 40 hours/week.
- Store open 7 days a week.
- Repetitive tasks, significant lifting, and carrying involved.
- Conditions vary from dry and moderate to cold and wet environments.
