Job summary

The University of North Carolina Wilmington's Center for Marine Science seeks a Temporary Research Specialist to support mariculture research, larviculture, and growout of marine finfish species for commercial cultivation or stock enhancement.

The role involves experimental design, system construction, hormone-induced spawning, biochemical analyses, data interpretation, and presenting results at conferences; 8:00 am–5:00 pm, Monday–Friday, up to 40 hours per week, with hourly pay of $22–$30.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and 1 year of related experience.
• Strong knowledge of recirculating systems design and operation.
• Experience with hormone-induced spawning and larval culture.
• Proficiency in statistical data analysis and scientific writing.

Responsibilities

• Induce spawning using hormones and/or photothermal control.
• Conduct biochemical analyses with GC, NMR, and EM.
• Design experiments and develop research protocols.
• Supervise staff, students, and interns in the lab.
