Responsibilities

• Maintain City rights-of-way and easements including mowing, blowing, edging, raking leaves, trimming, weeding, and removing trash.
• Assist with repair of potholes, patching, and sealing of pavement cracks.
• Perform vegetation control duties in public rights-of-way, including flower beds/baskets, landscape beds and other grass areas.
• Remove vegetation from storm water facilities, swales, etc.
• Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner, provide information within the area of assignment, or forward to supervisor in efficient and timely manner.

Under the general supervision of a Public Works Supervisor and at direction of the Lead Maintenance Worker, this position functions as a crew member, performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city’s storm drainage systems. The position involves the operation of maintenance and construction tools and equipment to perform a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Work will be completed in a manner that ensures individual, co-worker, and public safety and is performed in all weather and working conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate maintenance equipment and power tools such as small tractors, rotary brush trimmer, weed trimmer, mowers, edgers and blowers, and maintain hand tools and assigned equipment in good working order.
• Maintain swales and open ditches as required to maintain good system operation.
• Maintain City rights-of-way and easements including mowing, blowing, edging, raking leaves, trimming, weeding, and removing trash.

• Operate equipment safely, and in conformance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often in foul weather conditions.
• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships among co-workers and other City personnel, contractors, and the public.
