Job Description

The Lifeguard will be responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Complete opening and closing task lists
  • Test pool chemicals before opening the pool
  • Monitor Aquatic Center to maintain safety
  • Maintain a clean and organized space
  • Participate in 4 hours of monthly in-service training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold a current Lifeguard Certification with the American Red Cross or be able to become certified by Campus Recreation
  • Successfully pass a water assessment including:
    • Complete a 300-yard continuous swim using proper strokes
    • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs
    • Perform a timed event: swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive, retrieve a 10-lb brick at a depth of 11.5 ft, then swim 20 yards on back while holding the brick and hop out of the water without using a ladder in the shallow end
  • Good decision-making skills and the ability to work with little supervision
  • Assertive, friendly, and knowledgeable about facilities and services

Temporary, part-time, non-benefit eligible. Selected candidates must work at least 5 hours per week for at least one academic semester.
