Job summary

California State University, Fresno’s Fresno State Library invites applications for a Temporary Library Teacher Resource Center Specialist. Under supervision of the Dean, this TRC role provides customer service at the service desk, maintains the TRC space and collections, and assists with exhibits, displays, and outreach for the TRC.

The position supports collection development, creates LibGuides, coordinates programs, and helps with training student workers.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated hiring salary is $1990.50per month (Step 1). Full-time equivalent salary is $3,981 per month.

The salary range for this classification is $3,981 -$5,800per month (full-time equivalent).

  • This part-time (equivalent to 20 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to end on or before 1 year from the date of hire. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under supervision of the Dean, this position works in the Teacher Resource Center (TRC), which provides books, media, educational kits, and curricular materials to Fresno State students/faculty/staff, pre-K-12 educators, and community members. This position 1) provides customer service at the TRC service desk, answering patron questions and providing tours of the TRC; 2) maintains the TRC space and collections; 3) assists with exhibits, displays, and outreach for the TRC; and 4) assists the TRC librarian in selecting and deselecting materials and creating and maintaining resource guides.

Essential Job functions
  • Provide excellent customer service at the TRC service point including assisting patrons in person, by phone and via email.
  • Maintain TRC stacks and shelve materials.
  • Prepare displays, exhibits, and reading lists to market the TRC collection.
  • Participate in the collection development process (selection and deselection) including coordination of TRC deselection and purchase suggestions.
  • Create LibGuides and other educational materials for TRC.
  • Coordinate, plan, and staff programming and events (readings, course visits, etc).
  • Create content, book lists, and event descriptions for website.
Secondary Job Functions
  • Provide backup oversight of TRC student assistants
  • Maintain and coordinate marketing materials for TRC.
  • Coordinate cataloging and records management of TRC materials.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical records and reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
  • Knowledge of:
    • Working knowledge of library terminology.
    • Proficient in library organizational structure, policies and procedures including those pertaining to the Teacher Resource Center and ability to apply them accurately in performing work functions.
    • Full proficiency in the use of automated library systems pertaining to circulation and records management.
    • General knowledge of library collection organization and classification scheme and ability to interpret bibliographic records.
    • University and library’s policies and practices associated with the ethical use of and access to library and on-line resources.
    • General knowledge of accounting and budget procedures, including the ability to perform arithmetic operations to track and monitor accounts and budgets.
    • Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps)
  • Skill/Ability to:
    • Ability to interpret library unit’s policies and procedures and apply them accurately in performing work functions, as well as the ability to evaluate procedures and recommend changes.
    • Demonstrated problem solving and research skills to address standard and non-standard work problems.
    • Demonstrated ability to compile and present information in an organized manner.
    • Effective communication and interpretive skills to be able to assist in resolving patron problems and complaints, assess patron information needs, and orient and guide patrons in use of library resources.
    • Ability to effectively provide lead work direction and training to student workers and an understanding of employment and payroll procedures related to student workers.
    • Take initiative to develop projects, find resources and obtain information.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to conduct presentations and trainings.
    • Demonstrated competence in using Google Suite and other software applications to create, share, and access information.
    • Highly collaborative, including demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and community members.
    • Ability to serve as a resource to students, staff, and the community in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information concerning campus news and events.
    • Ability to create and maintain program records and provide data for review in developing and implementing strategies and activities.
Education and Experience
  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent certification.
