GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking multiple temporary ITS Electrical Technician Assistants across the state of Wyoming. These positions work in conjunction with other ITS technicians to provide reliable Intelligent Transportation Systems for transportation efficiency and public safety statewide. This is a seasonal position with a maximum term of 6-9 months. The GIS/ITS/TMC program is specifically looking to hire one of these positions in Casper, Wyoming. Other positions can work from any other WYDOT shop across the state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Configure equipment to perform to customer requirements, enable equipment in system configuration software, set operating parameters and permissions for equipment, and use system resources to troubleshoot equipment connectivity and operational issues.
  • Measure system performance and results with specialized network software and communications tools to ensure levels of service specified in systems requirements.
  • Respond to system alarms and resolve user trouble reports. Diagnose problems relating to ITS equipment. Subject to on-call on a rotational basis.
  • Monitor the implementation, maintenance, and repair of ITS subsystems and equipment, including contractor and inter-division maintenance partners.
  • Monitor and follow up on contractor maintenance efforts and department-level equipment repairs.
  • Use advanced and complex Internet Protocol (IP) Configuration Management & System Administration applications to optimize ITS, databases, routers, and gateways.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the ITS team to gain knowledge, experience, and expertise in all aspects of the ITS system and GIS/ITS program.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to use specialized voice and data telecommunication systems and equipment; analyze performance; interpret/use specification sheets and technical diagrams/manuals and network management software.
  • Broad knowledge of Electricity, Electronics, Information Technology, and facilities; including data communications, transmission media, towers, and vehicle electrical.
  • Advanced technical knowledge can independently install, configure, modify, and repair networks and equipment and adjoining computers & electronics.
  • Skills in written and oral communication include leadership, training, conflict resolution, consensus building, team building, and clear and concise records, reports, correspondence, training, and other written materials.
  • Ability to effectively manage own time and work independently and/or with limited supervision for extended periods, and to make reasoned decisions when confronted with unusual circumstances.
  • Problem-solving and customer service skills.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to climb ladders and work at varying heights
  • May involve heavy lifting
  • May work in extreme weather conditions
  • Subject to call out for the restoration of mission-critical devices
  • Ability to obtain and retain WYDOT level 1 tower climbing certification for heights up to 40 feet.
