It currently consists of three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 years, mixed selective school in the heart of Canterbury, rated “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2020 and November 2024; The Charles Dickens School, an 11-16 years mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs, rated “Good” by Ofsted in March 2023 and Barton Manor Free School, an 11–18 years non‑selective mixed school in the heart of Canterbury which opened to Year 7 in September 2022 and as the school grows will have students in Y7 to Y11 from September 2026, rated as “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in May 2025. It is planned for Sandwich Technology School to join our Trust from 1 November 2026.

OUR SCHOOL

Barton Manor School, is a non‑selective 11-18 school located in Canterbury, a 5 minute walk from Canterbury City centre. The school is in its fifth year of opening, with students in Y7 to Y11, and when full it will have a shared Sixth Form provision with Barton Court Grammar School providing a wide‑range of vocational and academic courses. We have a vision and a determination to provide our community with an excellent school and we are making great strides towards this. THE POST

Required for 1 January 2027, the Trustees are seeking to appoint a well‑qualified, experienced English teacher to teach English in our Free school, which opened to Year 7 only in September 2022 and from September 2026 now has students in Y7 – 11. The ability to teach up to GCSE is essential and the ability to teach to A level desirable. The successful candidate will be a joining a team of highly experienced English teachers within the School who work collaboratively with staff at Barton Court Grammar School.

The successful candidate should be able to deliver excellence in the classroom, providing innovative and inspirational teaching and learning. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to work with colleagues to be part of a vibrant and outstanding department. This post is suitable for an experienced professional looking to further their expertise or an ECT starting their career.
