TrulyHired is seeking a Special Education Resource Teacher (LD and/or Multi-Cat Certified) for a temporary assignment in the Georgetown, SC area. The teacher will meet and instruct classes, create a conducive learning environment, and plan lessons aligned with curriculum goals.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated times.
  • Creates a learning environment conducive to student growth and maturity.
  • Establishes and enforces classroom behavior rules fairly.
  • Plans a program of study meeting students' needs, interests and abilities.
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes for demonstration and practice.
  • Guides learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons and projects.
  • Uses varied instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
  • Assesses student progress and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses learning abilities and disabilities and seeks district support as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by policy and law.
  • Instructs students on use and care of equipment; arranges repairs as needed.
  • Serves as a positive role model and maintains professional competence.
  • Communicates with parents and counselors on pupil progress.
  • Supervises students during the school day and in activities outside class hours.

Supervisor: Executive Director / Director of Special Services

FLSA: Exempt

Terms of Employment: Temporary

Qualifications
  • South Carolina Teacher Certification in appropriate area
  • Degree(s) required and area of major study from an accredited college/university
  • Prior job experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the student
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be developed within the allotted time
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the students involved in the learning activities
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities and disabilities of students on a regular basis. Seeks assistance of district specialists as needed
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrations' regulations
  • Instructs pupils in use, care, and safe operation of equipment. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required
  • Serves as a role model for students
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
  • Works cooperatively with classroom teachers when appropriate
  • Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students
  • Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student
  • Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students
  • Counsels individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational, and personal problems
  • Assists students in making realistic assessment of his abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
  • Generates an Individual Education Plan at the end of each school year for the coming school year
  • Attends IEP meetings as deemed necessary and prepares behavioral intervention plans for specified students
  • Supervisor may assign other related duties as needed
